Grammy Award-winner Marc Cohn to play annual HCA fundraising concert

Marc Cohn will perform at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts on Sept. 28.

Hopkinton Center for the Arts’ Celebrity Spotlight on the Arts fundraising concert returns this year with Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn.

The concert will be held Sep. 28 at the Delbridge Family Performance Space. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m. There will be an open bar with “light bites.” Tickets are $200 per person and all proceeds go toward supporting HCA’s mission and annual fund.

“This is our largest single-event fundraiser of the year,” said Kelly Grill, executive director of the HCA.

In conjunction with the concert, HCA also is running an online auction. According to Grill, items being offered this year include a Broadway package to see the Harry Potter musical, a week-long stay at a house in Ireland and a guitar signed by Cohn.

Interested bidders do not have to attend the concert to participate in the auction.

The arts center is partnering with local restaurants as part of the event. A handful of local eateries are offering special concert menus or discounts to attendees. Start Line Brewing and Central Public House have signed on, with more to come.

“The idea is that people will patronize the restaurants for dinner before the concert,” explained Grill.

More details on participating restaurants and their offerings can be found on HCA’s website as they become available.

Cohn, best known for his Grammy-nominated 1992 ballad “Walking in Memphis,” is a widely celebrated singer-songwriter and musician. His music — a blend of American rhythm and blues, soul and gospel — has “solidified his place as one of this generation’s most compelling singer-songwriters,” according to a press release.

“It’s going to be an awesome concert in such an intimate space,” said Grill. “We’re super excited.”
