Margaret Powers

Margaret Lillian (Shea) Powers, 94, of Hopkinton, passed away Jan. 25. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Louise (Craven) and Bartholomew Shea. She was the wife of the late Charles George Powers.

Margaret was born, raised and married in Salem, where she lived until 1965. She was a graduate of Salem Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Salem Hospital, Milford Hospital and Milford Medical Home. She was active at the Hopkinton Senior Center and took pleasure in her gardens, in playing cards, and at her backyard pool. She loved her family and her many friends.

She is survived by six children: Elizabeth Pavia and her husband, Robert; Charles Powers Jr. and his wife, June; Nancy Shyer; Philip Powers and his wife, Margaret; Maryann Auty and her husband, Alfred; and David Powers and his wife, Michelle. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her daughter Susan Powers and her sisters, Ellen Callahan, Elizabeth Shea, Mary GoldKamp, and Jane Simmons.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Feb. 1 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hopkinton, followed by burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem. Arrangements were handled by Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton (ChesmoreFuneralHome.com). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Hopkinton Senior Citizens, 28 Mayhew St., Hopkinton, MA 01748.
