Mary C. (Cooney) Aten, 94, of Hopkinton passed away peacefully on Nov. 26 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester. She is the loving mother of William E. Aten Jr. and wife Gail of Mendon, Roy E. Aten and wife Beverly of Mobile, Alabama, Lori A. Aten and partner William Chipman of Whitinsville, and the late Darlene T. Russell. She leaves her many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was born in Cambridge on Feb. 25, 1927, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Ferguson) Cooney. She was a resident of Hopkinton, formerly of Alfred, Maine, the MetroWest area and Bellingham. She worked as an LPN at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick for 30 years until retiring.

She was a talented artist and enjoyed knitting and cooking, especially for the family at the holidays. She also enjoyed traveling and going to the ocean. She loved her pets and leaves her cherished dog, Emma. She will be greatly missed.

Visiting time is on Friday, Dec. 17, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Cartier’s Funeral Home, 151 South Main Street (Route 126), Bellingham, with a funeral service at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
