The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced it will close ramps at the Interstate 90/Interstate 495 intersection later this week.
The ramp from I-495 to I-90 westbound will close Thursday night at 11 p.m. and open up at 5 a.m. Friday morning. Traffic will detour onto I-90 eastbound to use Route 9 (Exit 111) to reverse direction onto I-90 westbound.
This closure is necessary to facilitate a traffic shift along I-90 near the Whitehall Brook bridge. The second stage of bridge work will reduce the lanes on the ramps from I-495 northbound and southbound to I-90 westbound from two lanes to one through the summer of 2026.
Appropriate signage and law enforcement details will be in place. Drivers should anticipate delays and exercise caution while traveling through work zones.
For more information on traffic conditions, drivers can visit the Mass511 website, which features travel times and real-time traffic.
