Munroe sends letter of resignation to School Committee

by | Jun 10, 2024 | Education, Featured: Education

School Committee member Adam Munroe, whose frequent absences from meetings has been the subject of discussion in recent weeks, is resigning from the board.

His resignation was confirmed Monday by chair Nancy Cavanaugh, who said he sent it to her directly.

Munroe was elected in 2023 and had two years left of his term to serve.

Cavanaugh sent the notice to Town Clerk Connor Degan, who will record it. The School Committee will announce the vacancy in a public session, and the next step will be for the town to receive applications from interested candidates to fill the seat.

Following review, an appointment will be made in a joint session of the School Committee and Select Board.

Last week, Munroe did not respond to a request for comment from the Hopkinton Independent regarding his lack of attendance at meetings.

In another School Committee matter, Cavanaugh confirmed that new member Chris Masters was unable to be sworn into office prior to last week’s School Committee meeting because the town clerk and his assistant were away at a conference.

In an email, she noted that the meeting’s minutes will reflect that Masters had not yet been sworn in and all votes cast will be recorded accordingly, reflecting the sworn-in committee member votes separately.
