Pedestrian killed on MassPike in Hopkinton

A crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Hopkinton on Sunday afternoon killed a pedestrian, the State Police reported.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on an eastbound travel lane, near the junction with Interstate 495.

A 40-year-old man from Connecticut who was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-5 struck the pedestrian, later identified as 65-year-old Laurie Cain, a mother of four from Andover, Connecticut. Cain was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not clear why she was in the roadway.

The Hopkinton Fire Department was among the units to respond to the incident, which remains under investigation by State Police, the Middlesex County State Police Detective Unit, Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services.
