The Hopkinton Parks & Recreation Department hosted its Celebrate the Start Line event on the Town Common on Saturday, ahead of the 129th Boston Marathon. As part of the festivities, the Hopkinton Marathon Committee sponsored a 100-yard dash for children at the Boston Marathon start line.

In a contributed photo from earlier last week, Len Holden, a member of the 26.2 Foundation board, performs maintenance on the Marathon eternal flame in front the Police Station. As part of the yearly maintenance, the gas was turned off so the lantern could cool, a year’s worth of soot was cleaned from the glass, and the flame — which originally came from Marathon, Greece — was relit.
