Planning Board continues UniBank/Starbucks parking lot hearing

by | Jul 8, 2025 | Featured: News, News

In a brief meeting, the Planning Board on Monday continued a scheduled hearing for a minor site plan review of 85-89 West Main Street until July 21 at the request of the applicant.

The proposed restriping of the cramped parking lot would add four additional spaces for the small but popular shopping plaza. The one-acre parcel is located at the corner of West Main Street and Lumber Street, and the lot serves as the parking area for UniBank, Starbucks, Verizon and a nail salon.

At its previous meeting on June 16, the Planning Board continued the hearing in order to receive input from the Conservation Commission and the Department of Public Works director regarding potential stormwater runoff issues. But the commission continued the hearing scheduled for July 1 at the applicant’s request until July 22.

Happ selected as board’s EDAB representative

Member Parker Happ was elected as the Planning Board representative to the new Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB) in a 7-0 vote.

Chair Rob Benson explained that Town Meeting voted in May to establish the EDAB. One seat was available for a Planning Board representative. He noted that about 17% of the town’s tax base comes from commercial property taxes.

Happ volunteered, noting that he had spoken in the past with Shahidul Mannan, the Select Board vice chair, about the EDAB and its goal of building up the town’s commercial tax base.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to help advance the town,” he said. “And I want to come with some Planning Board-centric ideas for how we can leverage tools in our tool belt.”
