Sandra Lea Dow, 76, passed away June 15 at Milford Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Charles Dow, to whom she was married for 52 years. Born in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of the late John and Sadie (Wojnar) Guzielek.
Sandra attended Syracuse University and received her master’s degree in fine arts education from Assumption College. She met her husband in Boston, then settled down in Hopkinton, where they raised two children.
She worked as an elementary art teacher in the Sudbury school system and at the Edgebrook School in Framingham. She also worked as a coordinator/docent at Danforth Museum. She was actively involved in the YMCA after-school arts education program and the Champions after-school program. Out of her home in Hopkinton, she ran the Country Day School, where she taught art to children.
She was insanely funny, incredibly loving and smart as a whip. She adored animals and loved to create, draw, sketch, paint and sculpt. She was multi-talented and extremely gifted.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Christopher J. Dow and wife Rebecca Lane of Whitinsville, and Alexandra K. Dow and boyfriend David Clemmons of Boca Raton, Florida, a granddaughter, Bella Lane of Beverly, and her dog, Holly Golightly.
