Schlussel, Barry lead HHS ski teams to 2nd-place finishes

Hopkinton High School senior Cate Barry won the girls race Thursday.

The Hopkinton High School alpine skiing teams both finished second at Thursday’s Central Massachusetts Conference Ski League giant slalom competition at the Ski Ward Ski Area in Shrewsbury. Both teams held on to second place overall in the season standings.

For the boys, senior captain Jackson Schlussel finished in first place (45.47 seconds), senior Cameron Hanna came in sixth (49.31), junior Jake Lacoche came in seventh (49.32), and sophomore Mathias Niss finished 13th. The boys recorded 962 points to finish second to Algonquin.

The girls were led by senior captain Cate Barry, who came in first (49.81), freshman Klara Niss, who came in seventh (52.43), sophomore Libby Herlihy, who came in 10th place (53.87) and junior Avery Hutchinson, who finished 13th. As a team, the girls finished with 956 points, trailing only Algonquin.
