Senior Snippets, Dec. 15 edition

The Hopkinton Senior Center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. For a more extensive listing of programs check Ourseniorcenter.com/find/Hopkinton-council-on-aging or hopkintonseniorcenter.com. Anyone with questions can call 508-497-9730. The Senior Center also has a Facebook page that provides updates on resources, programs and events.

Thrift Store
The thrift store is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Transportation Programs for Seniors
The Senior Center offers transportation to and from the Senior Center as well as local shopping Tuesdays through Fridays for Hopkinton residents.

The Senior Center also can help residents find transportation assistance for medical appointments and essential shopping, utilizing grants and MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA) programs. Individuals aged 60 and older, veterans or those homebound due to a disability should call the Outreach Department at the Senior Center at least three business days in advance of the desired day of travel at 508-497-9730, ext. 1615, for assistance in scheduling a ride.

Lunch Program
Meals are back in person at the Senior Center. Individuals should call to sign up at least two days in advance. The cost is $5 per meal, or a pre-purchased ticket for five meals is $20. The Senior Center website has the full lunch menu.

World War II — Letters To and From a Young Soldier
Thursday, Dec. 16, 12:30 p.m.
Seema-Janye Kenney is a software instructor and professional genealogist. Over 300 letters found in her uncle’s attic tell a wonderful tale of World War II both at home and overseas in Italy. Learn about or relive the years 1943-45 as participants travel through this time in the USA.

Stroke Signs and Symptoms
Monday, Dec. 20, 1 p.m.
Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, together with the Hopkinton Senior Center, will present a program on strokes. The presentation will look at the signs and symptoms of a stroke, how important time is when responding, treatment options and recovery outlook. This program will be available in-person and virtually for those unable to attend.

Medication Disposal Drop-Off
Monday, Jan. 10, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Hopkinton Police Department is hosting a medication disposal event at the Senior Center. Individuals can stop in to drop off any expired or unwanted medications. Sharps are not accepted at this event.

Our Time Memory Cafe
Call for dates
Our Time Memory Cafe is a welcoming gathering for those experiencing forgetfulness, mild cognitive impairment or living with dementia, and their care partner, family and friends. The cafe is a place to socialize, share experiences with others going through similar changes, and form friendships. A care partner must accompany anyone who requires assistance. The program is a joint venture between the Hopkinton Senior Center and Hopkinton Public Library. For more information or to register, call 508-497-0108 or email info@ourtimememorycafe.org.
