Summer Fun Business Profile: Great things happening at Hopkinton Center for the Arts

by | Mar 20, 2019 | Business

Learn, grow, become inspired

Experience the Hopkinton Center for the Arts this summer and it will touch your heart and soul, delight your senses, inspire your creative side and encourage you to broaden your horizons.

Art. Theater. Music. Dance. Ceramics for all ages.

The HCA is an amazing community resource, especially for young people looking for engaging activities during summer days and families wanting to take advantage of evening concerts in the amphitheater, performances by Enter Stage Left (the resident performance troupe) and ongoing professional art installations like the Arts in Bloom show.

“We offer a really great variety of classes, music and theater — either low cost or free — for all to enjoy. Come explore the center this summer,” said HCA co-director Kris Waldman.
Taught by experienced artist-instructors, classes are tailored for beginning through advanced students in the visual and performing arts. Classes include the fine arts, acting and theater, movie-making and ceramics.

The titles alone are captivating: The first session of Art Adventures for Kids, for example, is entitled “Slime, Sparkles and Spatter;” Summer Theater: Show In A Week; Movie Making Madness; Fine Arts Academy; Fairytale Ballerina Workshop and more!

The newest addition — The Complete Artist — exposes young people to visual art, theatre and ceramics, all in one class offering.

Fridays offer celebration surprises such as an ice cream truck dropping by (that’s fun for all ages)!

Take a stroll and enjoy the three spectacular gardens — the Healing Garden (a tribute to artist and teacher Nancy Barton), the Fairy Tale Garden (kids love this one) and the Shakespeare Garden, designed to resemble the Bard’s native countryside with seasonal flowers and plantings mentioned in Shakespeare’s poems and plays (you’ll feel like you’re in Central Park).

Relax for an evening with family and friends and enjoy the June 14 summer concert or the Saturday Sunset Jazz Series. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner. (Dogs are welcome, too.)

In August, the Ground Box Theater Company performs a Shakespearean work in the spectacular amphitheater on the HCA grounds.

Visit hopartscenter.org for details or contact the HCA weekdays from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 508-435-9222.
