Town Clerk releases updated election vote totals, indicates results should stand

by | May 22, 2024 | Featured: News, News

Town Clerk Connor Degan on Wednesday released updated vote totals from Monday’s town election, which produced a high voter turnout and number of mail-in ballots. Indepndent candidates Joe Clark and Brian Herr won seats on the Select Board in the election’s only contested race, easily besting Democrats Kyla McSweeney and Peter Mimmo.

Question 3, the addition/renovation project at Hopkins Elementary School, now stands at 1,384 in favor and 1,284 opposed — a difference of exactly 100 votes.

The official results are expected within a few days, according to Degan. But they are “unlikely to have a significant effect on any of the results.”

In the Select Board race, a total of 5,838 votes were cast. Clark received 1,894 votes, with Herr close behind with 1,851. McSweeney followed with 962. Mimmo rounded out the pack with 888. Ten write-in ballots were cast.

The highest ballot total for this race occurred in Precinct 5, where 1,384 ballots were cast. Precint 2 was next with 1,248, compared with 1,246 in Precinct 4. There were 1,212 votes cast in Precinct 3. Precinct 1 had 748.

The number of votes for Clark and Herr was relatively close in all precincts, with Clark winning Precincts 1, 2 and 3. The margin was tighter in Precincts 4 and 5. Herr beat Clark 404-396 in Precinct 4 and edged Clark 425-424 in Precinct 5.
