Former Hopkinton Police Chief Lee lands top job in Norwell

by | Jan 11, 2021 | News, Police & Fire

Former Hopkinton Police Chief Edward Lee was tabbed to be chief in Norwell.

According to a report in the Quincy Patriot Ledger, Lee was chosen by Norwell selectmen at last Thursday’s meeting. He recently had been named a finalist along with John Carbone, who is chief of police in Barre, and Leon Krolikowski, who runs the police department in New Canaan, Connecticut, to replace Ted Ross, who retired after 33 years on the job.

“At the end of the day for me, I just felt Chief Lee, with his specific backgrounds, the [Boston Marathon], working with the union, he was more relatable and more approachable and as someone who would fit in with the character around here,” said Norwell selectman Joe Rull, according to the report.

Norwell’s town administrator said the search committee started with 35 candidates, selected 11 to answer written questions, then interviewed an unspecified number to get to the final three. The finalists were put through an all-day assessment process and recently had another round of interviews.

Lee served as chief in Hopkinton from 2014 until he resigned last March. Joseph Bennett was promoted from deputy chief shortly thereafter.
