HHS athletes announce college plans at signing ceremony

by | Apr 14, 2021 | Sports

Fourteen Hopkinton High School student-athletes celebrated their commitments to play college sports in a signing ceremony Wednesday afternoon outside the school.

Three Hillers are headed to Division 3 St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Elias Pereira and Cole Salyards will play football there, and Lillian York will join the lacrosse team.

Pereira said he chose the school because “the coaches were heavily invested in their players and the program. Also, the campus is absolutely beautiful, and the alumni connections speak for themselves.”

Colin Norred is headed to Springfield College, where he will play lacrosse.

“I chose Springfield because the moment I stepped on campus for a prospect day going into my junior year I knew Springfield is where I wanted to go,” he explained. “I loved the campus and culture that the lacrosse team had and seemed like the perfect fit athletically and academically! I’ve also heard nothing but amazing things from [HHS lacrosse coach Dan] Norton, who is an alum from Springfield, and [HHS graduate] Seth Jenkins, who is currently a freshman on the team.”

Other Hillers recognized at the ceremony, either in person or virtually, were Nick Brown, who will run cross country at Bates, Ethan Champlin, who will run track at UMass, Pat Crantz, who will play soccer at Marquette, Alyssa Fischer, who will swim at Wheaton, Cam Jerrett, who will play baseball at Clarkson, Conor Kelly, who will play baseball at UMass-Lowell, Julianna Lucas, who will play lacrosse at RPI, Tiffany Mikulis, who will play lacrosse at Haverford, Ronnie Shamus, who will play baseball at Rollins, and Hailey Tolson, who will run track at Quinnipiac.

Meanwhile, former Hopkinton High School hockey standout Sean Walsh, who is spending a postgraduate year at Tilton Academy, recently announced he will play next season at St. Olaf College, a Division 3 school in Minnesota.
