Hopkinton Today: Monday, April 19

by | Apr 19, 2021 | Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

Hopkinton High School principal Evan Bishop emailed the HHS community Sunday afternoon to announce that a student had died, and to make students and staff aware there will be in-person grief counseling Monday. “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the death of one of our high school students,” Bishop wrote. “Out of respect for the family, we are not releasing the student’s name.”

For the second straight year, Patriots’ Day will pass without throngs of runners lining up at the start line in Hopkinton and beginning the iconic 26.2 mile trek to Copley Square. But the Boston Marathon will return. If all goes well, it will be held this October. And when the world comes back to Hopkinton, the Hopkinton Freedom Team is hoping to welcome everyone with messages of love from the town’s diverse residents.

Hopkinton’s latest COVID-19 update shows 41 active cases in town. Vaccine eligibility expands to ages 16 and older today.

Staff at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) have an exciting summer planned for the young and young at heart, with innovative programming in art, dance and theater.

Photo of the Day: In normal times, the Boston Marathon would have been run today. Instead, the starting line is faded and construction equipment sits where bleachers would be.
