Hopkinton Today: Thursday, April 29

by | Apr 29, 2021 | Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

A 61-year-old man from Hopkinton was declared dead Tuesday after he was involved in a rollover crash in Interstate 495 in Tewksbury, according to State Police. Kevin Furey was driving alone on I-495 South shortly after noon when his 2001 Mercury Sable drifted into the median and rolled down a shallow embankment. Police indicated that Furey appeared to have suffered a medical emergency prior to the accident.

A notice of intent was filed by the Massachusetts Laborers’ Training Trust Fund for the construction of several buildings at the 37 East St. campus, including an addition to the Conti Building and construction of the new Crane Building and the new headquarters. That was one of the items discussed at Tuesday’s Conservation Committee meeting.

Hopkinton schools met or exceeded target goals at all educational levels, according to a report card recently released by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

School officials are encouraging Hopkinton students to register for pool testing in an effort to quickly identify potential cases of COVID-19. Pooled testing processes specimens from multiple people in a single batch, which saves time and resources.

This week’s Police Log features two arrests for driving-related offenses along with reports of a confrontation between dog owners, a pursuit of a stolen vehicle, and two cases of missing children who eventually were located.

Town meetings tonight include the Appropriation Committee (6) and Cultural Council (6). Also, the School Committee has a special meeting (7) that will include a joint session of the Select Board.
