Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

A construction crew struck a gas line at the corner of Main Street and Grove Street on Monday morning, police stated, causing the downtown area to be closed to vehicular traffic for about 2 1/2 hours and leaving an odor of natural gas that was detectable up to a few blocks from the scene. No injuries were reported. Town manager Norman Khumalo said Monday night that a determination was made on the cause of the accident, and, “We have learned from the situation and how to prevent similar issues moving forward.”

Kiran Komaragiri has a simple goal: She wants people to laugh more. The Hopkinton resident strives to achieve this goal not by performing comedy or creating viral videos but via laughter yoga, a relatively new practice that originated in her native country of India.

Hopkinton Middle School student Anna Noroian, the school’s Project 351 ambassador, announced that she is hosting a clothing drive inside the school from May 10-21. Children’s clothing is preferred, but all items will be accepted and then donated to the nonprofit Cradles to Crayons.

Project Just Because, the Hopkinton-based nonprofit that helps those in need with food, clothing and other necessities, is hosting a golf tournament at Hopkinton Country Club on June 28.

Town meetings scheduled for tonight include the Conservation Commission (7).
