HHS softball reaches sectional final

The HHS softball team, seeded 13th in Division 1 South, had an impressive run to the sectional semifinals, upsetting Plymouth North and Walpole along the way.

In the sectional semis on June 14 in Taunton, the Hillers had a 2-0 lead on top-seeded Bridgewater-Raynham in the fifth inning but could not hold on, eventually falling in eight innings, 3-2.

Julianna Ceddia pitched a strong game for Hopkinton and also provided an offensive spark. In the second inning she hit a leadoff double that led to her team’s first run, on an Alyssa McIntire RBI single. In the fourth, Katy Holly reached on an infield single, stole second, moved to third on a fly out by Ceddia and scored on a two-single by Kristin McCluskey.

The Hillers finished the season with a record of 16-7.

Tennis, lax see runs end

The HHS boys tennis team, the top seed in Division 2 South, won three postseason matches and reached the sectional final before falling to sixth-seeded Walpole, 3-2, on June 13 in Abington.

The Hillers, under the direction of Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year Mike Miller, ended the season with a record of 19-2. …

HHS girls tennis lost to undefeated Sharon, 3-2, in the Division 1 South sectional semifinals on June 10. The Hillers, who were seeded fourth, finished the season with a 17-3 record.

Jane Stilwell, Maya Storm, Kate Lagasse and Riley Krattenmaker were named TVL All-Stars. …

The HHS boys lacrosse team advanced to the Division 2 Central/East semifinals before falling, 12-7, to second-seeded Concord-Carlisle on June 10 in Concord. The third-seeded Hillers ended their season with a record of 14-6.

The team won the TVL Sportsmanship Award and turned out six TVL All-Stars: Cory Bannon, Zach Frank, Connor Sullivan, Luke MacDonald, Seth Jenkins and Andrew Palleiko, who also was named TVL Defensive Player of the Year. …

For girls lacrosse, Natalie Calkins, Cami MacDonald, Olivia O’Connor and Lydia Rudden were named TVL All-Stars.

Honors for HHS track

HHS boys track and field coach Brian Prescott and girls coach Jean Cann both were named Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year after their teams won league titles.

TVL All-Stars on the boys side were Ben Powers, Ian Cann, Alex Brown, Devin Kelly, Dan Logan and Garrett Powers. For the girls, Kate Powers, Ashley Donnelly, Hailey Tolson, Delaney Mick, Olivia Jones, Schuyler Gooley, Angie Grabmeier, Abbi Fischer, Maggie Allen and Caroline Estella were TVL All-Stars.

Kozub honored at Trinity

Trinity College sophomore lacrosse player Drew Kozub, a Hopkinton resident who prepped at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference All-Academic team for the spring semester.

Kozub, an economics major, led the Bantams in goals (34) and shots (132) while finishing second on the team in points (41).
