Maureen Bruce

Maureen F. (Kelley) Bruce of Belmont passed away Oct. 31 at the age of 78.

She was the beloved mother of James W. Bruce and wife Jessica of Hopkinton, and the cherished Nana of Alexis and Nathan Bruce. She also was the loving sister of Priscilla Beadle of Hull, Marilyn MacDonnell of Marlborough, Gail McDonald and husband Bill of Maynard, and Nancy Shea and husband Kevin of Bolton. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Maureen’s fondest times were spent on summer days in Hull, surrounded by her family, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed traveling the world, including trips to Europe, Asia, Alaska and Hawaii. Maureen loved spoiling her grandchildren, Alexis and Nathan, with trips to Disney World, Hilton Head and many other spots. She always could be seen and heard at their sporting events as their No. 1 fan.

After spending many years working at Honeywell, Maureen earned her master’s degree from Lesley College. She went on to work at Bridge Over Troubled Waters and then taught at St. Patrick’s in Roxbury. After retiring, her generosity continued as she volunteered in the St. Patrick’s library for many years.

Maureen modeled generosity, compassion and kindness in every way. She was loving, forever grateful, and felt blessed for what she had in her life. Her outgoing and vibrant personality drew you in. She will be missed deeply by her family, her dear friends, and all who knew her.

A funeral was held from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home in Belmont on Nov. 5, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church in Belmont.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Qadan Liver & Pancreas Research Fund, c/o MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114.
