Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.
The Planning Board at its meeting Monday night approved the bond release for the Chamberlain-Whalen subdivision project after amending the amount due to a discussion about the number of street trees on the site.
The Hopkinton Public Schools Nutrition Department requested that parents/guardians pack lunches for students for the first two weeks in January if possible. The department is facing staffing shortages, resulting in “too few employees to properly produce and serve hot meals for our students,” according to an announcement emailed to schools families Tuesday. A modified menu is available for students.
The Hopkinton High School basketball teams finally returned to the court Tuesday night, with the boys routing visiting Ashland while the girls suffered an overtime loss at Ashland. Both games were played before small audiences, as the Tri-Valley League is limiting spectators at all events for at least the next two weeks.
To shed light on lesser-known female history makers, the Hopkinton Women’s Club will present a PowerPoint program on Zoom on Monday, Jan. 10, highlighting the contributions of Maggie Lena Walker. She played a significant role as the first black woman bank president in the United States.
Town meetings today include the Council on Aging (1 p.m.), Upper Charles Trails Committee (5 p.m.) and Elementary School Building Committee-2 (7 p.m.)
