HHS Sports Roundup: Boys basketball routs Ashland; girls track rolls; spectator limits in place for games

The Hopkinton High School boys basketball team returned from an 18-day break and looked to be in midseason form with a 59-31 rout of visiting Ashland on Tuesday night.

The Hillers led 34-8 at the half after closing the period on an 18-1 run and cruised home from there. …

The girls basketball team finally played its first game of the season Tuesday night, and it was an exciting one, as the Hillers fell 56-54 in overtime to host Ashland. Kiki Fossbender scored 32 points in the losing effort. …

The HHS girls indoor track and field team got the new year off to a running start with an 82-12 victory over Norwood on Monday night at Wheaton College in Norton.

Sinead Herr (300 meters), Grace Joy (mile), Steph Johnson (1,000) and Sowmya Karthikeyan (long jump) each won an individual event and then combined to win the 4×400 relay.

Other winners for Hopkinton included Kate Powers (shot put), Elyse Srodawa (2 mile), Ellie Driscoll (55 hurdles), Emily Hayward (600) and Bridget O’Connor (high jump). …

Due to the surge in COVID cases, the Tri-Valley League is limiting the number of spectators at each game. Each player is allowed two tickets. No other spectators are allowed. The league plans to review the situation in a couple of weeks.
