Open burning season underway

by | Jan 16, 2022 | News

The Hopkinton Fire Department is reminding residents that open burning season runs from Jan. 15 through May 1. A permit is required to burn in compliance with Massachusetts law.

Residents can apply through the e-permitting system on the HFD’s permitting portal, which can be accessed via the town’s website (hopkintonma.gov). Residents must activate their burn permits on days they wish to burn.

Burning must be completed between 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at least 75 feet from all buildings and when air quality is acceptable (as determined by the HFD).

An individual burning without a permit is subject to criminal charges.

For a list of acceptable items to burn and for additional information, visit the town’s website.
