James Nugent

James E. “Jim” Nugent, 67, of Sutton passed away Feb. 14 after a battle with dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lucille “Lucy” (Lavoie) Nugent; two stepchildren, Lisa Santiago and husband Jean of Douglas, and Crystal McManus and significant other James Kuchinski of Sutton; six grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Nugent and wife Marianne of Arlington; three sisters, Nancy Buck and husband Leo of Southborough, Kelly Whitney of Holden, and Pam Frechette and husband Dan of West Boylston; many nieces, nephews and good friends. His stepson Chad McManus predeceased him in 2019.

Born in Boston on Oct. 14, 1954, he was raised in Hopkinton and lived in Grafton for 22 years before moving to Sutton. He graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1973. Jim worked throughout his life as a master plumber, owning and operating Paul C. Hooper Co. out of Wayland with his brother, Arthur.

Always social, with a good sense of humor, Jim was fun to be around. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting and was a life member of the Woodville Rod and Gun Club. He was a past member of the Worcester Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4311, and the Harley Owners Group H.O.G. Charter.

According to his wishes, Jim was cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held on March 5 at Lisa’s home, 284 Main Street, Apt. 2, Douglas (behind the Webster First Bank) from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Woodville Rod & Gun Club, P.O.
