Sharon Sannicandro

Sharon Sannicandro

Sharon M. Sannicandro, a longtime resident of Northborough, passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning hours of April 24. She was 81 years old. Sharon was born in Milford and raised in Hopkinton, one of six children to the late Kenneth and Lois (Philpot) Casey. She was a 1959 graduate of Hopkinton High School.

As fate would have it, Sharon and a handsome young man named John A. Sannicandro III met while he was driving through town. In 1960 they married; this was the beginning of a wonderful life together. In February of this year Sharon and John celebrated their 62nd year of marriage. The young couple resided in Hopkinton for a short while prior to relocating to Northborough in 1973.

Sharon focused her life on caring for her husband, their children and her home. She took great pride in her houseplants and in her spare time enjoyed needlepoint. Her humor was legendary and her smile was contagious. Sharon looked forward to taking the time to talk with friends and strangers alike. As a strong and independent woman and as an avid New England sports fan, Sharon looked forward to discussing the teams with all who would listen.

Sharon was the devoted wife of 62 years to John A. Sannicandro III and beloved mother of their two daughters, Lisa Kane (Mark) and Paula Desmarais (Marc). She leaves four grandchildren, Matthew (Lupita) Kane, Jonathan Kane, Robert Desmarais and Catherine Desmarais (Rodney Cross), and two great-granddaughters, Victoria and Galia Kane, all of whom she loved dearly. They will all fondly cherish the many memories of her Italian cookies, chocolate chip pie and other wonderful baked goods she would lovingly prepare for the family holidays. They will also remember the many trips to the ocean, which Sharon loved to visit. With a smile, they will recall Ipswich fried clams and perhaps to a drive to Booth Bay for a lobster.

At Sharon’s request, all services are private. The Sannicandro family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be directed to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (dana-farber.org) or Metrowest Hospice Care, 200 Nickerson Road, Suite 110, Marlborough, MA 01752. Arrangements were under the care of Hays Funeral Home, Northborough.
