Aerial mosquito insecticide applications planned across town

by | May 20, 2022 | News

Mosquito spraying map

This map details the locations of scheduled aerial insecticide applications.

The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) announced that personnel are scheduled to perform aerial insecticide applications — via helicopter — for larval mosquito control in Hopkinton from May 23-28. Weather, especially high winds and rain, will determine the actual dates of applications.

The applications will occur in low-lying swampy areas where mosquito larvae can develop using a granular form of bacteria called spinosad, a certified organic, naturally occurring soil bacterium, the CMMCP stated. This program also was performed in 2020 and 2021 to reduce risk from the EEE virus.

Additionally, CMMCP personnel are tentatively scheduled to spray for mosquito control in town on June 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 22, 28 and 29. All dates are subject to change due to weather conditions, mosquito populations, mosquito virus activity and/or special event spraying.

For more information, including an updated schedule and details on how to opt out of the program, visit cmmcp.org.
