Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, June 22

by | Jun 22, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

Leading off the Select Board roundup, board members paid tribute to Rebeka Hoffman, who passed away June 11 at the age of 68 following a one-year battle with cancer. Hoffman had been reelected to the Housing Authority in last month’s Town Election and served as vice chair of the Sustainable Green Committee. She also was a substitute teacher for the local schools. Also at last night’s meeting, the town’s water rates for the next year were set for a 9.5 percent increase, and town officials cautioned that the rates are likely to continue to increase aggressively in the coming years as the town switches to the MWRA connection.

The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) announced that personnel will be in Hopkinton to spray for mosquitoes on July 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27. The dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions, mosquito populations, mosquito virus activity and/or special event spraying.

A special musical concert for individuals living with memory issues as well as their families and caregivers will be held at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts this Friday from 1-2 p.m.

Town meetings tonight include the Lake Maspenock Weed Management and Control Advisory Group (5), Board of Appeals (7) and Trails Coordination and Management Committee (7:30).

Photo of the Day: The Hopkinton Community Summer Band conducts its first rehearsal. The band will perform at the Town Common on July 17 as part of the Concerts on the Common series.
