Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, Aug. 10

by | Aug 10, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

The Planning Board at its meeting Monday night opened a new public hearing on an open space mixed use development (OSMUD) at 83 East Main Street, noting concerns about how the three proposed age-restricted housing units fit in with the historic single-family house that will be replicated on the site and mesh with the neighborhood’s character.

Complaints from several residents living on or near Winter Street could eventually lead to the town adopting its own noise ordinance sometime in the fall. That along with COVID regulations for the upcoming school year and the status of local beaches were the main topics of conversation during the Board of Health’s Monday night meeting.

A three-year special education staffing proposal was the focus of Monday night’s School Committee meeting. The presentation, given by Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh, Director of Student Services Karen Zaleski and Marathon Elementary School Principal Lauren Dubeau, reflected recommendations by consultants who studied the needs.

Town meetings tonight include the Parks & Recreation Commission (5:30), Board of Appeals (7) and Hopkinton Historic District Commission (7:15) as well as a joint meeting including the School Committee, Appropriation Committee, Select Board and Capital Improvement Committee regarding the Special Town Meeting (5:45).
