As part of the Main Street Corridor Project this week, the contractor will continue work at the intersection of Route 135 and Route 85, with the eastbound detour remaining in place.
The contractor will continue grading the road at the intersection from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday only. Road paving will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. and is expected to take two days. Temporary traffic markings on the newly paved area are estimated to take place in the middle or end of the week.
The detour will send eastbound traffic from Main Street to Pleasant Street to Maple Street to Hayden Rowe Street and back to Main Street. Walcott Street will be open to two-way traffic during the detour and will revert to one-way traffic when Main Street is reopened.
Other work being performed this week includes Comcast duct work from Muffin House to the east end of the project limit as well as service connections project-wide. On the west side of the project — working eastbound from the Wood Street intersection toward the Fire Station — the contractor will continue to install new granite curbs, fine grade and compact sidewalks, and start forming concrete sidewalks mainly on the south side of the road. Concrete sidewalk work will be at the end of driveways; affected property owners will be notified in advance as driveway access will be impacted. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
This schedule may change due to weather and existing conditions found while performing the planned tasks. For the most up-to-date information, visit the town’s project website at hopkintonmainstreet.com.
