Water main break could lead to discoloration

by | Aug 29, 2022 | News

Hopkinton Water and Sewer Department Manager Eric Carty cautioned residents that there could be some discoloration in town water over the next several days due to a water main break.

“Due to the construction water main break on Main Street late last week and continued issues from a lightning strike at the Ashland water plant over the weekend, there is still some discoloration throughout town primarily in the downtown, Hayden Rowe, Front Street, Ash Street and surrounding areas,” Carty announced. “Due to high velocity in the main during these events, the minerals have been dislodged, causing the issue. Although not harmful, it could take several days for the mineral pockets to work their way out of the system from the pumps turning on and off, reversing the water flow direction. We thank you for your patience during this time.”
