Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.
A review of changes to the Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursement process and another look at a traffic study dominated Tuesday’s Elementary School Building Committee meeting.
This week’s Police Log includes two arrests along with reports of goats in a front yard, a car getting egged and an intoxicated woman being placed into protective custody.
Town meetings tonight include the School Committee (7).

Congratulations to Hopkinton’s 9 and Under Team!
After playing 4 years of Hopkinton Little League in the 1960s, not one picture of those teams, individual players or coaches was ever taken. Which is in stark contrast to today, where I have formal photos of every sport from every season my children participated. Enough to fill a whole box. Without those pictures from my old days, I can’t really even remember all of my teammates through those 4 years. Like most players, I spent my first year playing in the Farm League on the field behind Carrigan Park. Mr. Mangan was our coach. We all played in white tee shirts with Indians printed on them. I only recall one teammate from that team. The next three years were spent playing for the Giants inside Carrigan Park. Franny Adams, Charlie Hill and my father, Cookie Kumlin were coaches through those three years. In 1967, the year of the Impossible Dream for the Boston Red Sox, we had our own impossible dream by winning the Hopkinton Little League Championship. Is that recorded anywhere or is it lost to history? Anyway, a shout out to my old teammate, Marty Doren who passed away at age 68 on June 4, 2023. On that championship team, Marty used to patrol center field with a big old first baseman’s mitt. He made a lot of amazing sliding and diving catches for the Giants. He told me that the league didn’t approve of him using a first baseman’s mitt in the outfield and eventually forbade him from using it. I will end with one of the last things Marty wrote to me…
“My mind plays games with me. I had a little league game in my dreams last night. We were indeed playing the Tigers and I caught the final out against them. The final out came from Michael Guerrini. For two months he claimed that I might have made a great catch. The funny thing is that I did race in and caught the ball maybe 20 feet from second base.”
Rest In Peace, Marty
Without pictures… did all this really happen or was it all just a dream?
