The Hopkinton Historical Society building on Hayden Rowe Street will be closed for the next three Mondays.
The expected closure dates are Aug. 19, 26 and Sept. 2. During the closure, crews will be completing construction around the building’s exterior.
In an email to the Independent, the society’s vice president, Anne Mattina, explained the purpose of the project.
“The work being done is the installation of an updated drainage system for the building,” she said.
She noted that the project is anticipated to take between three and four weeks to complete. Weather, unforeseen circumstances or issues with the contractor may cause delays.
Funding for the project came through the Community Preservation Commission. It was approved by Town Meeting last May.
The Historical Society building is an old schoolhouse originally built in 1870. According to Mattina, its basement experiences flooding from “weather and proximity to groundwater sources.”
“The end result [of this project] will be a dry basement, which will help keep records and artifacts intact,” she added.
