by | Nov 12, 2024 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Fire department tackles multiple brush fires as drought persists

The last few days have been busy for the Hopkinton Fire Department, as more brush fires have popped up around the region.

Crews spent the better part of Sunday assisting the towns of Bellingham and North Reading battle fires in their towns.

“We sent two trucks to the joint task force in North Reading and a brush truck over to Bellingham,” said HFD Lt. Matthew Bailey.

The Bellingham fire since has been contained. As of Sunday afternoon, the North Reading fire was ongoing.

Bailey reported that crews responded to a brush fire in Hopkinton on Sunday as well. According to him, a quarter-acre parcel of land on Spring Street caught fire due to ashes from a burn barrel. Crews contained the fire that afternoon.

The risk of fire remains elevated throughout the state and region. The HFD recently banned any outdoor burning as drought conditions continue. And according to a post on X, the department responded to three additional brush fires Monday afternoon.
