Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

The second annual HerSwap community-wide tag sale will take place this Saturday at Marathon Elementary School.

HerSwap raises funds for the Hopkinton Parent Teachers Organization and The Herd, a community-based business working to support postpartum women and their families. The tag sale is centered on women and relies solely on donated items.

“We think it’s a great community event,” said Dana Passant, HPTO co-president. “It brings people to Hopkinton from so many different communities, which I think is really special.”

Co-president Sarah Navin echoed Passant’s statements. She noted that HerSwap is beneficial in multiple ways, as any items not sold during the event are donated to local charities.

“It’s a great event that not only helps people out but also continues to help out,” said Navin.

This year’s HerSwap will run from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday. All sales are cash or check only. Donations can be dropped off Friday at Marathon School from 4:30-7 p.m. According to a post on The Herd website, organizers are requesting items be in good condition, as well as properly sorted and labeled.

The HPTO uses the money it takes in from the event to fund a number of programs throughout the school district. With its share of the proceeds, The Herd anticipates being able to fund monthly memberships for some of its community members and expand its women’s health educational workshops.

Passant and Navin said the success of last year’s HerSwap was an influencing factor in bringing it back this year. They explained that lines to get in last year started forming an hour-and-a-half before the doors opened. The HPTO and The Herd now are considering making the tag sale a biannual event.

Additions to this year’s fundraiser include coffee and donuts for early morning arrivals and goody bags for the first 100 people through the door. HerSwap also will feature a small vendor fair with 12 women-owned small businesses.
