Hopkinton Today for Tuesday, Nov. 4: No local voting today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Municipal, state elections not running this fall

Neither a municipal or state election is set to take place in Hopkinton today, despite others occurring in the region.

“Municipal elections for towns are required to happen in the spring,” explained Town Clerk Connor Degan. He went on to describe how state elections only occur on even-number years, and city elections happen in the fall during odd-numbered years.

Added Degan: “We just don’t have anything for the odd-numbered years unless there’s a special election.”

Degan said he received calls from election workers expecting to help out. He chalked up the confusion to regional and national media coverage of other races. “[Elections are] picking up the regular news cycle but … won’t impact Hopkinton at all,” he noted.

Even though no election is taking place, Hopkinton schools are closed for a professional development day.
