Sports Roundup: HHS girls soccer, field hockey prepare for next rounds; youth football teams shine

The Hopkinton High School soccer team will be looking to earn a spot in the Division 1 quarterfinals Saturday when it travels to Wellesley for a 2 p.m. game.

The 14th-seeded Hillers (14-3-2) are coming off an impressive 4-1 victory over visiting Weymouth. Third-seeded Wellesley (12-2-5) opened postseason play with a 3-0 victory over Haverhill.

HHS field hockey, after posting two extra-time victories, next plays Franklin in the Division 1 quarterfinals Monday at 3:45 p.m. at Franklin’s Beaver Pond Turf Field. Hopkinton (9-6-5) is the 10th seed and is coming off a 4-3 shootout win over Concord-Carlisle. Franklin (15-2-3) is seeded second and has yet to allow a goal in the postseason.

Youth football has full Sunday slate

Hopkinton Youth Football has has a full slate of games Sunday at Hughes Field (the HHS varsity field), with three teams competing for a championship. At 9 a.m, Hopkinton’s green and white teams will play each other in the K/1 flag football Super Bowl. At 10:15 a.m., Hopkinton will host Mansfield in the Grade 2 flag Super Bowl. Hopkinton’s tackle teams take over starting at 11:30, with Grade 4/5 playing Franklin, followed by Grade 6 vs. Taunton at 1 p.m. and Grade 7 vs. Dedham at 2:30.
