Mary Ellen Kenney

Mary Ellen Kenney (O’Toole), 81, passed peacefully on Dec. 14, 2025, at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham following a brief illness. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Hannigan) O’Toole. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert J. Kenney, in 2023.

Mary Ellen was a 1962 graduate of Framingham High School. Following her marriage to Bob, she established a successful career in real estate and then became a contractor and built homes until her retirement.

A longtime Hopkinton resident, Mary Ellen is survived by her two sons, Sean and Patrick, a grandson, Tyler, two great-granddaughters, Maggie and Riley, her sister, Catherine Brown (Donald), and seven nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Michael O’Toole, and her daughter, Karen Kenney.

The funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 19, at 9:30 a.m. from the Callanan Cronin Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Parish. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday, Dec. 18, from 3-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Framingham Heart Study.
