Hopkinton High School senior Harry Millar blazed to a victory in the 55-meter hurdles at the Meet of Champions on Saturday in Brighton. He finished in 7.4 seconds, 0.23 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
Also at the meet, senior Sean Finnegan took third in the 2-mile in 9 minutes, 22.8 seconds, and senior Ryan Morin was third in the weight throw with a heave of 55 feet, 3 inches. Additionally, senior Iago Ferreira was eighth and sophomore Ian Weilding 17th in the 300, the 4×400 relay finished fourth and the 4×200 relay took 17th.
On the girls side, senior Kaelyn Faber took third in the weight throw and 24th in the shot put, sophomore Emily Miller tied for 17th in the high jump and the 4×200 relay took 19th.
Butkus wrestles to fourth
HHS senior wrestler Aaron Butkus, coming off a victory in last weekend’s sectional meet, reached the semifinals at the state Division 1 meet Saturday at North Andover High School before settling for fourth place.
Competing at 138 pounds, Butkus, the fourth seed, opened with wins Friday over St. John’s Prep’s Boden Dormer (13-0) and New Bedford’s Dereon Tremblay (11-7).
In Saturday’s semifinal, Butkus fell to top seed and eventual champion Jason Ballou of Andover.
In the consolation semifinals, Butkus edged Shawsheen’s Hadi Sibay, 9-8, before falling to Winchester’s Edward Donlon, 14-2, in the third-place match.
Gymnasts 11th at sectional
The gymnastics co-op team earned a spot in Saturday’s South sectional qualifier, where the team finished 11th. …
The alpine skiing championships were postponed to Wednesday and now will be held at Wachusett Mountain. They originally were to be held Tuesday at Berkshire East in Charlemont.
Tourney matchups revealed
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association announced the pairings for the state tournaments, and two Hopkinton teams will have home games to start.
The HHS girls basketball team is seeded 16th with a record of 14-6. The Hillers open tournament play Friday by hosting 17th-seeded Bridgewater-Raynham at 6 p.m.
Boys basketball (12-8) is seeded 41st in Division 1 and will play at 24th-seeded Quincy (16-5) in a preliminary-round game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Boys hockey (12-7-1) is seeded 16th in Division 2. The Hillers will host a Round of 32 game against 17th-seeded Gloucester on Wednesday at 7:50 p.m. at New England Sports Center in Marlborough.
The girls hockey co-op team (10-10) is seeded 29th in Division 1 and will play a first-round game against fourth-seeded Bishop Feehan (15-7) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at New England Sports Village in North Attleboro.
