The Parks & Recreation Department’s summer programs at the Town Common kick off this week with the first installment of its Movies on the Common series.

“We are very excited about this summer’s movie selections,” Parks & Rec Director Jon Lewitus stated in an email. He noted that this year’s films were chosen based on community feedback on polls the department ran on its social media pages.

Movies on the Common begins this Thursday with “Zootopia 2.” The program will run every other Thursday from this week to Aug. 6. The full line up for this season is as follows:

June 25, “Zootopia”
July 9, “How to Train Your Dragon” (2025)
July 23, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”
Aug. 6, “The Wizard of Oz”

The annual Concerts on the Common series will start Sunday, July 12, and run every weekend through Aug. 23. Kicking off the series this year is Beatles tribute band Studio Two. This year’s acts are:

July 12, Studio Two
July 19, Hopkinton Community Summer Band
July 26, FM Collective
Aug. 2, Roy Scott Big Band
Aug. 9, Carolyn Rae and The Rumors
Aug. 16, Kymberlee O’Brien Music
Aug. 23, Knock on Wood

Lewitus recommended that residents planning to attend pack picnic blankets, refreshments and bug spray. He also noted that, while there are no new features to either program this year, the common now has water refill stations for easier water access.

“These are two events that are stables for the [Parks & Rec] community,” Lewitus stated. “We love hosting these events at the beautiful Town Common, where it is accessible for all community members.”
