Kathleen Gamache

Kathleen Mary Gamache was born Kathleen Mary Hussey on June 19, 1957, in Grafton. Kathy passed away on Aug. 27, 2026, at home, her favorite place on Earth, surrounded by her loving family, after a 20-month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Until her final breath, she encouraged her husband and two wonderful children to live their lives to the fullest, as she did.

Kathy graduated from Framingham State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree and worked as a medical technologist for 11 years at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick. She left her job to focus on raising her children and channeled her considerable energy as Girl Scout town leader for 11 years in Hopkinton and Christmas pageant director for 15 years at St. Mary’s Parish in Holliston.

Kathy married her husband, David, in 1982 and was endlessly devoted to him and her two children, Joseph and Elizabeth. She was a loving wife and mother, deeply caring, dependable, supportive and always provided the space for each in her family to be themselves.

Kathy oversaw the construction of their home of 40 years in Hopkinton. She enjoyed family trips to Japan, Italy and Germany and more than a dozen other countries with her husband. Some of her fondest memories were annual family vacations on Cape Cod and in Maine. An avid quilter, Kathy enjoyed gifting her creations to those she loved. She enjoyed spending time in her glass-surrounded sunroom, where she could see outside without having to go outside.

Once the nest at home emptied, she returned to part-time work for nine years as the front desk administrator at Kids on the Common Pediatrics in Grafton. It became a second family for her, and she adored the constant stream of infants and toddlers.

She is survived by her husband and best friend of 44 years, David; son Joseph; daughter Elizabeth; mother Eleanor Hussey; brother Thomas Hussey and sister Patricia Connor.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish in Holliston. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathleen Gamache’s memory to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 504 RXR Plaza, Uniondale, NY 11556 or lustgarten.org.

Obituaries are submissions, typically from funeral homes, that are not subject to the same level of editorial oversight as the rest of the Hopkinton Independent. Obituaries may be edited for grammatical and factual mistakes and clarifications and shortened for space considerations.
