Business Profile: Jolicoeur Overhead Doors continues family-run tradition

by | Sep 2, 2026 | Business, Featured

Jolicoeur Overhead Doors

Julie Sutherland and her son, Taylor, stand in front of Jolicoeur Overhead Doors, their family-owned and operated business based in Bellingham.

Jolicoeur Overhead Doors has been family owned and operated for more than 32 years by the Sutherland family. Julie Sutherland has been running the company since her husband, Michael, passed away in 2024. Now a new generation, son Taylor Sutherland, is readying to take the helm and continue the company’s tradition of unmatched reputation and excellent customer service.

“We have created and nurtured this business for so many years, and to have our son step in to run Jolicoeur is just amazing,” said Julie Sutherland. “I feel like Taylor is carrying on the legacy of my husband, and that’s a beautiful thing.”

Taylor said the transition has been an easy one thanks to a career and master’s degree in architecture. His love for building began while installing garage doors for Jolicoeur during his high school summers.

“I know our reputation and have seen the hard work put in to build this company to where it is,” said Taylor Sutherland. “We are providing a valuable service to our community, and I take great pride in that.”

Jolicoeur offers a wide range of products and services throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island, from the installation of garage doors and openers to preventive maintenance and repair. The Sutherlands take pride in their vast customer base across residential, commercial and municipal clients, including many for 20-30 years. The Jolicoeur team includes many long-term employees dedicated to delivering a personal touch for customers.

“The customer experience is very personal, from the first time they speak with somebody in our office, to the technicians, the sales team and our response to repairs and maintenance requests,” said Julie Sutherland.

Jolicoeur’s showroom in Bellingham has dozens of doors and lift operators on display. Brands include General Doors, whose products are tailored to the northeast climate, as well as Haas, a frequently requested brand with a wide selection of door styles, colors and finishes. Jolicoeur also carries high-end manufacturers, such as Hormann, a European brand featuring specialized carriage-style and barn doors.

Jolicoeur also keeps up with current trends. The Sutherlands mentioned clients may change their original white doors for colored doors to deliver impact and a fresh look. Faux wood finishes have become popular and can offer the look and texture of real wood without the expense and heavy upkeep. They noted other trends such as oversized doors to accommodate larger trucks and vehicles. Also popular is high-lift track conversion, which allows homeowners to utilize taller garage ceilings for car lifts, additional storage and even golf simulators. Smart home technology is integrated into all Liftmaster garage door operators sold by Jolicoeur, allowing garage door control via a smartphone app.

“Jolicoeur has relationships with most major suppliers and national brands,” said Taylor Sutherland. “We stand behind our workmanship with a one-year guarantee, in addition to the manufacturer’s product warranty. This quality assurance gives customers peace of mind.”
