Baypath Adoptable Animal of the Week: Amelia and Horton

by | Aug 28, 2025 | Featured, Featured: Features

Each week, the Independent highlights an animal available for adoption at Baypath Humane Society in Hopkinton. This week’s adoptable animals are Amelia and Horton.

Here is Baypath’s description of Amelia and Horton:

“When more than a dozen huskies and shepherds arrived at Baypath Humane Society last June, Amelia and Horton were among them. Because they were part of an active cruelty case, none of the dogs could yet be listed for adoption, but Baypath provided daily care and the opportunity to begin healing. In May, legal custody was finally granted — opening the door for their next chapter.

Amelia

“Amelia, 2 years old, was one of the most undersocialized and fearful of the group. At first she was completely shut down — she had never walked on a leash, never touched a toy and preferred to hide from the world. With patient care, she has been slowly and bravely building her confidence.

“Today, Amelia delights in carrying squeaky toys, digging cozy holes to rest in, taking quiet walks with her dog friends and greeting familiar faces with a happy wag. She accepts treats gently and even sneaks in kisses for those she trusts.

“Her transformation has been inspiring, yet she still waits for her forever family. Amelia will thrive with a confident dog sibling and adopters who understand that patience brings the greatest rewards.

Horton

“Horton, a striking, 8-year-old husky with a big heart, is social, silly and completely unforgettable. In true husky fashion, everything is on his terms — he knows what he wants, and he isn’t shy about asking for it (with plenty of dramatic flair). His goofy, slightly clueless charm wins everyone over, and his antics never fail to bring a smile.

“He gets along well with other dogs, loves toys and is always up for playtime. Whether he’s zooming around with a squeaky toy, showing off his comical side or exploring at his own pace, Horton is endlessly entertaining.

“He may not stick to your side every moment, but Horton will make sure you’re part of his world. For adopters looking for a lovable, strong-willed goofball with true husky spirit, Horton could be the perfect match.”
