George Vrahliotis, owner of Hiller’s Cleaners and a second-generation dry cleaner with more than 30 years experience in the fabric care industry, is fighting to keep his business intact.

“The dry-cleaning industry as a whole has been hard hit during this pandemic, and no one is talking about it,” Vrahliotis explained. “Our business is down 75 percent, but we’re committed to the services we provide, and we’re counting on the loyalty of our customers.”

As with many small business owners, Vrahliotis has had to trim back staff, and his eight-person team now is just two. He believes in his business’s reputation in the community and has already welcomed new customers from a nearby town where a dry cleaner closed.

Despite the difficult downturn in business during this pandemic, Vrahliotis wants to extend a helping hand to anyone suffering financially. He is offering to clean one winter coat, per customer, free of charge.

“I’m proud of our past support of the community,” he added. “If I can help a person in need by refreshing their soiled winter coat, I’m happy to do it,” he added.

Now might be the time to take advantage of cleaning comforters, quilts, linens, drapes, suede, leather and other items. Tailoring, alterations and complete shoe repair services are offered. All work is done on the premises, guaranteeing the fastest turnaround time. Curbside drop-off and pickup is available. There is free winter storage.

“I thank my customers for continuing to support us as best they can,” Vrahliotis said. “We’re all going through a tough time. At Hiller’s, we’re doing our best to keep the doors open and, hopefully, one day soon, we will all get back to a more normal life.”

Vrahliotis and staff are hard-working, friendly and professional. He has an “old-school” mentality and takes pride in the company’s services.

“Being the best in the business starts with an understanding of fashion and clothing,” Vrahliotis explained. “There’s an art to pressing a sports jacket or a good pair of slacks. Customers can trust we’ll handle their clothing, linens and other items with utmost care and attention.”

Hiller’s Cleaners, located downtown at 63 Main St., is currently open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Same-day service is available. Discover more at hillerscleaners.com.

Added Vrahliotis: “If you arrive a little early or late, just know if the lights are on, we’ll be happy to take care of you.”
