For more than 30 years Lauren Fitzgerald has been the owner of Razor’s Edge Hair Studio and Barbers, a downtown Hopkinton business that provides men, women and children full-service barber and hairdressing services. Fitzgerald has been a staple in the community for those three decades, and she can proudly say many of her clients have been with her pretty much since the beginning.

“We first came to the Razor’s Edge on the recommendation of friends here in Hopkinton. That was in 1988, and we have not gone anywhere else since,” said one customer’s testimonial.

Fitzgerald and her professional and friendly team, which includes Valerie Banks and Tanya Gemma, understand that hair is such an important part of the way people feel about themselves, and therefore they want to make certain their clients leave with a look they love. As a result, Razor’s Edge offers a wide selection of services including cuts, color, foils, perms and texturing treatments for everyone. And by everyone, Fitzgerald stresses her business offers barber services, too.

Fitzgerald has dual shop licenses in cosmetology and barbering and is a master barber.

“So, we have a very broad range of clients, from someone who might come in for a simple buzz cut to someone who’s looking for a very polished, high-end style,” she said. “That’s why our studio is not overly geared toward women or men. It’s just the right blend so everyone feels comfortable here. And we love cutting kid’s hair, too.”

Facial waxing also is available.

When it comes to the hair products at the salon, clients have the option to choose organic products, which means they contain no ammonia or harsh chemicals. It’s a choice that continues to grow in popularity.

With the ever-constant changes in hair trends these days, Fitzgerald makes certain she and her staff are up-to-date on the latest in color, cuts, styling and products in order to stay fresh and inspired for their clients.

“We’re always taking classes to learn what’s new in the industry,” she said.

Razor’s Edge offers 10 percent senior and college student discounts, and clients who recommend a friend receive one free product of their choice.

Although Fitzgerald resides in Norfolk, she considers Hopkinton her home away from home and has supported multiple community organizations and events throughout her years in town, including the PTA, the Hopkinton Center for the Arts and sports teams. She’s also a member of the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce.

Razor’s Edge Hair Studio and Barbers is located at 42 Main St., Unit D, and is open five days a week. Hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is plenty of parking in the rear lot off of Walcott Street. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 508-435-9350. However, busy families and individuals certainly appreciate that walk-ins are welcome.
