Private contractors will install a water main bypass on Claflin Place Monday, according to a notice from the Water-Sewer Department.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, workers will put in place a temporary, above-ground water main bypass on Claflin Place. The installation aims to ensure residents maintain water service while the department replaces the existing water main. The temporary bypass will connect to an existing fire hydrant on Commonwealth Avenue and extend along Claflin Place. It also will cross the nearby bike trail.
As work continues, both Commonwealth Avenue and the bike trail will remain open. Any bypass-associated roadway and trail crossings will be “clearly marked, properly coned and protected to provide safe passage for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,” according to the notice.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we complete these necessary improvements to the town’s water infrastructure,” Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff stated in the notice.
