David Alan Walker, 93, husband of the late Peggy Clark Walker and a resident of Hopkinton, passed away peacefully May 22. Born Jan. 9, 1928, in Hackensack, New Jersey, he was the son of Forbes Walker and Ruth (Stoutenburgh) Walker.
Dave is survived by daughter Julie Walker and grandson Reid Walker Kiessling of Sudbury, sister Sally Henry of Inverness, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers, Dusty, Tony and Jerry.
Dave will be remembered for his gentle, quiet nature, his infectious laugh, and his sweet tooth — all traits his only daughter is happy to have inherited! Dave, aka Grandpa Walker, relished any chance to spend time with his grandson, Reid, and rallied to the end with questions about the 17-year-old’s track season, job and college plans.
Dave graduated from Rutgers University in 1951 and went on to serve in the Army during the Korean War. He married Peggy Clark of Sudbury in 1966 at the Martha Mary Chapel and the couple settled in Allendale, New Jersey. Dave made his passion of gardening into a career, first in his home state of New Jersey, and later in Hopkinton, where he worked at Weston Nurseries until retirement. Memory loss in his final years couldn’t stop Dave from rattling off Latin names of trees and instructions for planting and pruning to any willing listener!
In lieu of a service or donations, Dave would most appreciate a tree being planted in your yard or in a neighborhood park in his honor.
