Fire at Fruit Street business may lead to water discoloration in town

by | Jan 5, 2022 | Business, Featured: News, News,

The town’s Water and Sewer Department warned residents that water might be discolored throughout town due to hydrants being needed to fight a fire early Wednesday morning on Fruit Street.

The fire was at a building owned by J.B. Sawmill & Land Clearing, which is located at 36 Fruit Street, across the street from the town’s wells.

According to Fire Chief Bill Miller, firefighters arrived at about 6:40 a.m. to find flames in the attic and roof over a maintenance garage. Multiple neighboring towns sent fire personnel and equipment to assist, and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported.
