HFD responds to 10-car crash on I-495 in Hopkinton

by | Sep 21, 2024 | Featured: News, News

The Hopkinton Fire Department responded to a crash involving 10 vehicles on Interstate 495 north near the Interstate 90 interchange Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before the I-90 northbound ramp, around the 57 mile marker. The 10 vehicles were spread across both the high-speed and slow-travel lanes.

According to an HFD post on X, firefighters and medical personnel were on scene around 1 p.m. It was not clear to department officials how many vehicles were involved at first.

“We responded to what sounded like a single-car accident,” said HFD Lt. Matthew Bailey.

HFD provided medical support, transporting two individuals from the scene. According to Lt. Bailey, one was taken to UMass Medical Center while the other was brought to Milford Regional Medical Center.

“I would say [there were] minor injuries,” Lt. Bailey said.

The northbound side of I-495 was shut down while crews worked to clear the scene. A post on the Hopkinton Police Department’s Facebook page indicated the highway reopened around 2:45 p.m.

Whether inclement weather was a factor in the crash remains unclear. Massachusetts State Police officials were conducting on-scene investigations, according to Lt. Bailey.
