HHS Sports Roundup: Tennis teams host tourney matches Tuesday; track teams shine

The Hopkinton High School boys and girls tennis teams will begin the postseason with home matches Tuesday.

The HHS girls (13-5), seeded 28th in Division 1, will host 37th-seeded Diman Regional Voc-Tech (9-3) at 4 p.m. in the preliminary round of the MIAA state tournament.

The winner advances to the Round of 32 and a date with fifth-seeded Acton-Boxborough (10-2).

The HHS boys (15-2) are seeded 12th in Division 2. They will host 21st-seeded Shepherd Hill Regional (12-2) at 6 p.m. in the Round of 32.

If the Hillers triumph, they would play the winner of Thursday’s match between 28th-seeded Reading and fifth-seeded Marblehead.

Track teams impress

The HHS girls finished fourth at the MIAA Division 2 state meet over the weekend, while the boys finished 11th.

For the girls, Josie Hopkins won the pentathlon, took third in the 100 hurdles and was part of the 4×100 and 4×800 relays, both of which finished fourth. Loryn Canty took second in the 100 and fifth in the shot put. Alice Brambati was third in the long jump and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Isabel Walker was fourth in the long jump. Savannah Rivera took fifth in the javelin.

On the boys side, Logan Sullivan was second in the high jump, Russell Perryman took second in the javelin, Harry Millar took third in the 110 hurdles, Will Bialobrzeski was fifth in the javelin and Drew Bialobrzeski took eight in the 110 hurdles.
