This fall is shaping up to be a busy one in Hopkinton, as events resume in full force after taking a break or scaling down during the pandemic.
One particular day should be especially memorable, as on Saturday, Sept. 17, Hopkinton Family Day returns from a two-year absence, with plans to bring back the fireworks show that drew rave reviews when it debuted in 2017. (The fireworks were canceled in 2019 due to concerns about eastern equine encephalitis.)
Additionally, the Hopkinton Health Department is sponsoring the second annual Community Health Fair earlier that day. The Health Fair, which runs from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on the Town Common, features free screenings and information, games, snacks and live music.
Family Day, coordinated by the group Friends of Hopkinton, starts at 2 p.m. at the fields behind the middle school/high school. Attendees will enjoy live entertainment and fun activities for people of all ages, including art projects, athletic events and games. Food trucks will be on hand selling refreshments. The event brings the community together and helps families get to know the organizations, groups and businesses in town as well as the people behind them.
From 6-8 p.m., attendees will continue to enjoy live entertainment and the food trucks while the activities break down in preparation for the fireworks display, which are expected to begin at dusk (about 8 p.m.).
There is no charge to attend Family Day, and all of the activities are free (with the exception of the food trucks).
“Hopkinton Family Day brings people from throughout our community together to enjoy an array of exciting, family-friendly events at no cost to them,” Town Manager Norman Khumalo said. “While children enjoy our fun games and booths, families will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with local organizations and resources, all culminating with a stunning fireworks show. We hope to see everyone there.”
“The Friends of Hopkinton is extremely excited to invite community members to this year’s Family Day, and to be able to bring this event back for the first time since 2019,” Friends of Hopkinton President Ann Click said. “We have been working hard for several months to make this Family Day the best yet, and we encourage everyone to keep an eye out for additional details to be shared ahead of the event. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in September.”
